Living in an Apartment on Long Island or NYC is a fantastic way to relax and relieve the stress of your busy day. But when the “little things” get you down…just reach for this handy guide of troubleshooting tips and tricks. This will make your life a little easier and get you back on the couch in no time!
When Lightning Strikes
Dropped a light bulb or glass and don’t want to risk getting cut with those little shards of glass? Just grab a cotton ball! Gently rub the cotton ball across the floor or counter where the break occurred. The natural fibers in the cotton ball will attract and gather-up the small shavings your eye can’t see. Make sure to use rubber gloves as extra protection against minor cuts and scrapes.
Live Strong
Apartment dwellers in NYC don’t usually have a car at their disposal. Our experience tells us that the preferred mode of transportation in Long Island City or Williamsburg, Brooklyn is a bicycle. But, we all know storing a bike is sometimes tough while living in an apartment. Don’t leave your bicycle in the entryway or hallway of your luxury rental…just hang-your-bike on the wall! This fantastic idea has been used for years but is only now being widely accepted as a form of decoration, or strategically placed art! Andy Warhol, eat your heart out.
Toyland
Living with a toddler in your rental apartment on Long Island can be so much fun! But when they roll their favorite toy under the refrigerator or stove, just what is a mom or dad to do!?! Here’s a tip! Grab your vacuum cleaner hose and attach an empty paper towel or toilet tissue roll. Gently squeeze the cardboard together and place at the end of your vacuum hose. This will create an extension that will easily slide into those tight spaces and help free that tiny Lego piece or dolly comb right into your hand! Make sure to squeeze the cardboard tightly to secure the toy you’ve just recovered! Can you say “hero!”
Bed Head
Want to save space and reduce stress in your rental apartment in NYC? Don’t we all. Here’s a smart way to do both! When folding your bedding (after the laundry), gather together your set of sheets, fold neatly and place inside the corresponding pillow case! This way when it’s time to change your sheets you won’t get stuck “hunting” down the individual sheets and pillow cases –because you thought ahead– and packed them all together in one neat compact packet. As for the perfect way to fold those pesky “fitted” sheets? The solution for that remains a mystery.
Got Fruit… Flies
Have fruit flies followed you home from the supermarket? No problem. Just place a small cup on your counter with Apple-Cider Vinegar and a couple of drops of dishwashing liquid. Mix together and in no time you’ve got a fruit fly cocktail. Please dispose of this drink responsibly.
