The Village of Port Jefferson is one of the oldest incorporated village’s on Long Island’s north shore. Port Jefferson was first settled in the 17th century and remained a rural community until its development as an active shipbuilding center in the mid-19th century. Today the “port” remains active with two terminals and three commercial ferry lines that run between Long Island and Bridgeport Connecticut. But Port Jefferson is more than just a travel hub; it’s full of tradition as well. There is an annual boat race known as the “Village Cup Regatta” and (held every winter since 1996) is the “Port Jefferson Village Dickens Festival.” Port Jefferson is also home to “Theatre Three,” a non-profit theatre company founded in 1969. Each year Theatre Three stages four musicals and two plays. The Village also hosts an annual outdoor concert series and film screenings. A plethora of Zagat rated restaurants dot the “main strip” offering first class dining and nightlife. What’s more?
